Call for Contributions

The Global Engineers Languages and Skills (GELS) network is pleased to announce its next event.

Venue: Sorbonne Université and Conservatoire National des Arts et Métiers (Cnam), Paris, France

Date: 26th June 2025

This is an in-person event with limited opportunities for online participation.

At last year’s training event, GELS members agreed to tweak the network’s name to highlight a growing interest in essential skills for engineers. Some of these skills are clearly related to language and communication, such as empathy, active listening, and presentation skills. Others, such as creativity, teamwork, and leadership, go beyond a conventional language curriculum.

This year, we would like to give members an opportunity to explore skills – the S in GELS – and to share their insights and findings with GELS colleagues.

We welcome contributions in the form of one-hour workshops, 20-minute presentations with 10-minute Q&A, or posters. Contributions on languages, skills, or both are warmly welcomed. The use of any language is also welcomed.

Please submit an abstract in English or French to gels2025@sciencesconf.org by Friday 7th March 2025. The abstract should be approximately 300 words and include a clear aim for your contribution and a summary of your intended content. Please add a list of about five references (not included in the word count).

  • Notification of acceptance by 21st March 2025.
  • Final confirmation required by contributors 28th March.
